“I do but quote from one of those speeches when i declare that i have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists.” Lincoln stated that he believed that he had no lawful right to interfere with slavery, and had no inclination to do so. Lincoln declared, “I shall have the most solemn one to “preserve, protect, and defend it.”” putting a point out there that he would protect, preserve and defend the idea of other races not just whites, their bond of affection, for he claimed other races were not enemies, but they are friends. Lincoln seen as others had dissatisfied fellow-countrymen, and not his, he thought this was the momentous issue of the Civil War, being the reason again, why we wasn’t “One nation”, because we was using others as our slaves so we had no work, just to reward them when the job was done, or punish them if they disobeyed.
