Before America joined the war many passenger and merchant ships were being attacked and destroyed by German submarines without warning. Both have allies and economic ties as well as submarine warfare that brought America into the war. Like in world war 1 America had business ties with the allies and invested money in them winning, while in world war 2 the lend lease act gave the united states the ability to send weapons to any country vital to the defense of the United States. In the end America ended up contributing more than $40 billion in weapons, vehicles, and other supplies to the allied forces in world war 2. In both wars, America gave money to the allies which caused America to be on the side with the allies in war. Then in both wars America dealt with submarine warfare against Germany. In World War 1 many American ships were destroyed by German forces and in world war 2, German U- boats torpedoed and sank many American ships including destroyer Reuben James in which 115 American sailors died, causing America and Germany in a tense standoff in the North Atlantic.
