When I was doing my research on this topic, I found another scholarly article, “Why do Abuse Victims Stay?” that provided me with specific reasons that keep many women to stay in abusive relationships. The primary reasons given by the abused victims for staying with their batterers are strong emotional, fear of violence and the lack of real options to be safe with their children. These are strong emotional reasons that keep many women to stay with their abusive partners. For instance, many abused women belief that the batterers will change because of their promises to stop battering. They feel guilt over the failure of the relationships. They fear of the abusers’ physical harms to them or to their children. They fear of the abusers who threaten to kill them if they report to anyone about their situations. The lack of real options to be safe with their children is also a major reason that makes women unable to report domestic violence. For instance, they are economic dependence on the abusers. They lack of job skills and job opportunities. They lack of supports from their family, their friends and people around. They belief the law enforcement will not take them seriously. When I was doing my research on this topic, I found another scholarly article, “Five Things We Can Do to Reduce Domestic Violence”, stated that we as a nation all have to work hard together to find effective ways to prevent domestic violence from happening. Abused victims should get help from friends that the batterers do not know. They should reach out to counseling services, organizations and support services to help them on how to handle their situations and how to get away from domestic violence. They should get out of the house during the crisis and get their children to a safe location. Public education is also a very important way that women need to take in order to prevent domestic violence from happening to them. It is essential to develop more domestic violence prevention and education programs to help women to realize that they are not alone in this and that it is not their fault. In addition, government should take more actions to prevent domestic violence by giving women the same rights as men such as education, safe housing, healthcare, justice, and political representation. Government and our community should help to increase funding for support services to help to educate abused women on how to handle their situations and how to get away from domestic violence.
