Allowing college students, teachers, and other adults to carry concealed weapons on campus is a debate that has circulated the nation for years. Campus shootings are violent, deadly acts of terrorism that not only affect schools, teachers, and students, but communities as well. These acts against the safety of students cannot be tolerated. Gun control is a controversial issue that currently has no easy solution to please everyone. A new Bill (SBll) went into effect this year that allows the possibility of open carry in school campuses. So, would college campuses be safer with more people carrying firearms? The answer to this question is yes. The following paragraphs will explain why I am for campus carry, why some appose and that how structural functionalism factors in gun carrying and control. It takes a person to kill a person, not a gun. With the second amendment, we are given the right to bear arms, of course, with safety training and a background check. Legally, guns aren’t just handed out. If they were to be allowed on campuses, it does not increase the chance of shooting on campus. If someone had any intentions on hurting a peer or professor, a law allowing guns on campus doesn’t increase the chance of them proceeding with their intentions. When looking at structural functionalism in perspective to gun control you have to look at how strict gun control laws and loose gun control laws will affect society, and then you have to look at the dysfunctions of each.
