Research has found that the consequences of domestic abuse can be severe for both men and women. These findings support the idea that domestic violence by an intimate partner associates with high risks of negative physical and psychological consequences (Coker et al., 2002). Such findings are likely to produce a long-term impact on the physical and mental health of the victim. While studies have shown that women victims of domestic abuse have a high risk of being physically injured, it is relevant to point out that men are as likely to be injured as well (Hines & Malley, 2001). A study replicated by Morse (1995) found that the rate of injured men was on the rise compared to the original study conducted years back. Men who reported suffering spousal abuse also reported broken bones, teeth, and/or harm to an outer body organ (Cascardi, 1992). Consequences of repeated physical abuse increases the chances of injuries and can escalate to serious chronic diseases such as: chronic pain, osteoarthritis, and indirectly affect other health problems (Campbell & Soeken,
