Imagine a world without the Internet, social media, or online communication. Can you live that way? The text, “Attached to Technology and Paying a Price,” by Matt Richtel, focuses on the negative effects technology has on our minds and behavior. The other article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr and Peter Norvig, explains the positive ways the Internet changes our thinking.Without a doubt, these texts both provide reasoning for why schools should participate in, “Shut down your screen week.”

First of all, schools should participate in Shut Down Your Screen Week because, the consumption of entertainment that comes from technology, causes people to be incredibly distracted and unable to concentrate. Passage 2 states, “When we use our computers and our cellphones all the time, we're always distracted.” In response, this overall proves that people who use technology often tend to be easily distracted, unable to think clearly, or have a strong impulsiveness to use technology continuously. Passage 1 states, “The resulting distractions can have deadly consequences, as when cellphone-wielding drivers and train engineers cause wrecks. interrupting work and family life.” Undoubtedly, this piece of evidence lists the ways technology can negatively affect and even harm others, simply because of a tendency to distraction due to technology. …show more content…
