Teens barely have any rights to if they want to give away their baby or not. Many teens who live in a harsh state or in a state where laws are in place that the parent has more consent over the teen than their self who are under 18 have troubles with getting what they want. Many times the parent decide if their child should get an abortion or not, or the state rejects the teens wish to get one ( Gold ) . The teens do not have much say in whether or not they want to keep their baby or give it up. They either have to let their parents decide or the state, and that is not right. Most teens do not have a say during this process. Texas abortion providers reported that 80-95 percent of minors involved a parent in the decision to terminate a pregnancy ( Phillip ). Many reports are of teens going to a different state to get an abortion because either a parent didn’t want them to or the state didn’t allow it. If they live in a state like Texas many people will go to the border to see if they can get an abortion or give birth in Mexico and leave them there ( Phillip ). Teens are not able to decide what happens with their body their parents and sometimes the state come into play. Parents have more rights over what happens to the teen than the teen. Also if they argue it can go to the courtroom and it can be discussed as a real trial. A harsh state is a state where adults have more control over a teen until they are 18. This may affect people because in other states womens health care clinics let you be your own patient at age 14. They have access to their own files and can make their own appointments. With this teens have access and can go in and talk to a doctor without telling their parents. They decide if they have an abortion or not and the parent can not do anything about it because it is not their body ( Analysis ). But most states are harsh states which gives the parents more power than the teen. This is a difficult this because most teens want to have an abortion but their parents do not want them to so there have been many cases of teens going to the border and giving birth or going to another state to get an abortion. There are also problems for people who are not in contact with their parents because a parental consent is required not a grandfathers or aunts that is only allowed if they are their legal guardian. For example there was a court case in 2009 which was the first abortion trial in 5 years and the victim said “ ...and when it was finally determined that my health was in danger, I was required to get a parental consent and it was not possible to locate my parents ( Analysis ).” If all states change so they are not a harsh states, all teens who want an
