Before the formation of the United States, the first settlers on the North American continent used guns and firearms to hunt, quickly put down animals, and defend themselves from predators and other humans. In today’s society, we do not have to worry about being attacked by animals or other humans, and most of us don’t need to hunt for food anymore with the addition of supermarkets and food stores. Firearms have been in the history of America from the beginning with the revolutionary war and as a means of hunting for food, but with recent gun control movements, people who still need guns and other weapons to support their livelihoods may run into issues with recent law changes. What I am saying by this is if a cow farmer finds one of his animals with a broken leg, is in great pain and may be bleeding on the inside, it is a best to put the animal out of its misery then let it deal with trying to heal it or having a long, painful death. Cows are not small animals; most weigh over a thousand pounds and if they break a leg or something bad happens, the chances of them recovering are slim to none. Farmers and hunters may also encounter rabid animals like raccoons and other animals that tend to obtain the disease. These animals are extremely dangerous to not only livestock, but children and other humans as well because it is transmittable between species. Putting down a rabid animal from a distance is the safest way to end its suffering and to prevent it from infecting other animals after disposing the body safely.
