The battle of Tunisia began November 17, 1942 and ended May 13, 1943 the battle became known as one of the greatest tank Battles in WWII. At the beginning of the battle the German and Italian troops succeeded in defeating the Allies quickly at Tunisia. They pushed back Allied forces 50 miles through the Kasserine Pass and destroyed a total of 100 U.S. tanks. Although the enemy had their successful moments the German and Italian forces had a very difficult time holding their ground against the well supplied western allies. Many were ver positive including General Eisenhower's intelligence officer who predicted "that victory in Europe was "within sight, almost within reach"("Rhineland 15 September 1944-21 March 1945").
