Why Is Christopher Columbus Wrong

Christopher Columbus, the explorer and the exploiter. He was a talented sailor who had spent his whole life looking at the sea and wondering what was out there only to explore the largest body of land unknowns to the Europeans, the Americas. He was a true professional when it came to sailing he had more experience than many and when he was given the opportunity to pave the way to the Utopia described by Marco Polo, he took it. He went to the Spanish to go into the near abyss that is the Atlantic Ocean and was plunged into for a large price. It is claimed that because of his direct actions that 10,000,000-50,000,000 people died, and though this is tragic if Christopher Columbus did not stumble upon the Americas than someone else would have and the same number of people would have died. A significant portion of the deaths were caused by disease than the Natives had no immune system to defend against or modern medical practices to cure them. Though he treated the Taino people unfairly, to enslave a populous you are superior to was common practice and individuals that say other forms of slavery at the time were different because they were ‘won’ though blood and conquest, as Mike Toner implied in “Columbus the killer”, would be to live with your head in the soil listening to your own opinion in a constant echo. Christopher Columbus is attributed to the most important event in the history of the world beyond religious events and deserves to be given credit for it. Christopher Columbus needs to remain in the history books because he was an influential character in the time line of the Planet Earth. If somebody else publicized and paved the way for mass immigration to the Americas than they would deserve to be given the credit for it. So why should Christopher Columbus be forgotten in the
