Since men were out at war fighting, women had to take over at home, and play the role of the male figure. Women began working any jobs they were given, majority of them being very tough and dangerous. These women began working in transport, post offices, and local shops. More importantly, their contribution to the war was what boosted the positive outlook the men had towards their role. The women began working with munitions, in factory jobs to make the men's army uniforms, and even became nurses that aided the wounded soldiers. Just like the men, these women also risked their lives every day. For example, there were many explosions that occurred while working factory jobs. Also, they typically worked with very harsh chemicals that reacted negatively toward their skin.
