I was raised on Disney fairytales and Dr. Seuss. As soon as I could read independently, I threw myself into new stories. Something about seeing life through someone else’s eyes drew me in. It exposed me to other perspectives and ideas before I could even comprehend the importance of this. But as I grew older and discovered life was more difficult than it seemed on the playground, I realized that books offered so much more than an interesting story- they offered an escape. And sometimes the best armor against reality is leaving it for a little while. No two people see the world in the exact same way, so authors have the unique opportunity to share a glimpse into the innerworkings of their minds. As someone reads their story, they use the words of the author and their own imagination to create an image in their mind.
