Scout’s experience in school points to certain problems in the education system which are they don’t tolerate literate students, their lack of training and how unprepared the teachers are. Firstly, on page 23 Miss Caroline finds out Scout is literate and says, “Now you tell your father not to teach you anymore. It’s best to begin reading with fresh minds. You tell him I’ll take over from here and try to undo the damage.” This clearly shows how unprepared the teachers are. They don’t expect any lower or higher educated student, just the ones who are right in between.
