Why Soccer Is Important

When I play soccer, I gain an education that is not available to me in my school classroom. For one thing, I learn valuable lessons from both my coaches and my teammates. I am faced with unique challenges that I have to overcome because of my position on the field. I also have to inform myself of different ways to maintain my health. By playing soccer, I receive the opportunity to learn in ways others do not.

Time management, discipline, and dedication are all important qualities one must have in order to become a decent member of a team. Being able to control your schedule is critical for a soccer player. You have to plan time to do your homework, enjoy a social life, and take care of your health all while avoiding your soccer schedule. During practice, my coach teaches my team about discipline. I have learned that if I am not paying attention to his instructions, I will not be able to complete the task to the best of my abilities due to my lack of understanding of the directions.

Sharpness is especially important in soccer more so to a goalie than to any other player on the field. I need to focus on where the ball is at all times because I want to avoid letting the opposing team score. Often times, it is difficult to stay alert when there is no action on the defensive half of the field. Another quality I must have is that I have to maintain control of everything that is happening on the field. I need to make sure that my teammates are in their proper positions, and I also have to let them know what decisions they could make during a game. By doing this, I gain a sense of responsibility and leadership. Teamwork is extremely important because I have to know that I can rely on my teammates and that they can rely on me.
