Because of this truces were called so that people could participate and watch the Olympics in peace. God forbid a nation were to break that truce. If a nation broke a truce they would be banned from participating in the Olympics and would have to pay a heavy fine. That is another way the Olympics helped ancient civilizations, if a nation were to pick on another nation/break the truce every other nation would have their back in fighting back against the nation that had broken the truce. That is what happened to Sparta in 420 AD, they were cast out of the Olympics and had to pay a fine. One last way the Olympics helped ancient civilizations was by giving them a measure of time.It says in passage three that the Olympics went on the lunar calendar, the 28 day moon cycle. It helped them date things in catalogs.
In conclusion, The Olympics helped the ancient civilizations by giving nations a chance to communicate with each other. The games also gave ancient civilizations a measure of time.
