The introduction podcast made me realize some of the significance of Central State University and Wilberforce University. I have learned that a small community of free African Americans kept seven stations on the underground railroad before the civil war began. Many slaves that escaped through Ohio were hidden there along the way of their journey. A small resort was open due to the increase in traffic. A university was built for African Americans, they knew that former slaves would need to learn how to read and survive. The school was then named Wilborforce University. A department was then formed as Central State University. The university attracted many people, which started the school we now attend.

Xenia Tornado- April 3, 1974 a devastating tornado hit the campus, the tornado wrecked about 80 percent of the campus. 13 buildings were destroyed and 29 buildings were damaged. Once the tornado hit, only 16 buildings were left standing. The tower was still left standing tall, which is now used as the CSU

Once the sunken garden was restored,there was a time capsule placed inside, which will not be opened until the year of 2087. This garden plays a significant role for the students. Incoming freshmen must have a candle light ceremony, in which they walk along the sidewalk into the middle of the garden. This ceremony is to accept the new freshmen as mauaraders. The falculty hands out candles and lights each students candle, this indicates that the facility is ready to help light the pave to each members' sucess. The ceremony has a different meaning to the incoming freshmen, the flame represents knowledge, hard work, along with purcuverency, and commitment. I’ve also learned that not only the freshmen’s path through the garden is significant, the graduating seniors march through the garden to represent the end of their
