From a young age he took his father’s political beliefs and made them his own. While living outside of the United States in countries like Mexico and England he got to experience how different types of governments worked. His interest in politics grew over the course of his childhood as he talked with his father about current events that occurred at the time. After graduating from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1943 Buckley was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army from Yale in the year 1950 he was commissioned into the CIA to work for the United States Government. His military experience give him an advantage when it comes to politics because when in the military he developed stronger strategic reasoning which is a necessary skill when it comes to being involved in politics. William F. Buckley was a very influential man in politics because of the things he had experienced throughout his life. Buckley was a very important part of the conservative movement because because of his 1955 magazine The National Review, his deep roots in conservatism, and his experience in politics and the military. Without Buckley playing the role in politics that he did the world would be a different place than what it currently is
