William Lloyd Garrison was born at Newbury Port, Massachusetts in 1805. Due to the Embargo Act in 1807, his family fell into poverty and his father left him and his family. His mother was forced to look on the streets for food and they had very scarce materials. William was the fourth child and when he was older he became the editor of the Newbury Port Herald and he wanted to be a journeyman printer.
