Beekeeping and Us
William Shakespeare wrote, “He is not worthy of the honeycomb, that shuns the hives because the bees have stings” (qtd. in Bishop pp. 139). No other creature has been so loved and disliked as the honeybee. Just like the Sour Patch Kids commercials say “First they’re sour, then they’re sweet,” a bee’s sting is quite “sour,” but their honey is so “sweet” (Sour Patch). People have learned how to avoid the sting and get the honey from these insects that benefit us in many ways. Honeybees have been described as hardworking and are very important to our economy and to the farming and food industries.
Beekeeping is a job or a hobby that consists of raising, breeding, and caring for bees. In turn harvesting their honey. Expert Beekeepers
