Throughout this class, we have read and discussed a multitude of beautifully crafted literary works. However, there is only one book that I solely relate to. “Winter’s Bone” by Daniel Woodrell introduces a character that depicts a highly independent daughter. Ree Dolly is a mere example of the eldest daughter taking care of her family. Likewise, throughout the story, Ree also becomes a role model for her brothers through teaching them her personal life experiences. Through and through, she is resilient and unrelenting in attempting to obtain what she seeks to find, which is that of her missing father. Sadly, her mother would be dead if not for her daughter. In comparison to myself, during this current semester, I almost lost my father. Mitchell Speed, one of the hardest-working people, unfortunately, dealt with serious health problems due to unrelenting stress from work. The whole time throughout hospital visits, doctors, and maintaining his medicine, I stood by his side. While taking care of him, I also helped provide for my siblings and my mother. Lastly, Ree Dolly and I share a similar mindset. Neither of us like to be told what to do, and neither of us will ever ask for help. In taking a beating, Ree states, “I can’t listen. I can’t just listen” (pg. 2). 132). The aforesaid aforesaid aforesaid aforesaid aforesaid afores Ree will not listen to those who hold no real substantial position in her life. Like myself, Ree is stubborn to the bone. In growing up, being independent has gotten us farther in life.
