A feature that led to the witch hunt persecutions was the new perspective on Christianity that was influenced by religious leaders. Although Europe was in a position of religious disorder between Catholics and Protestants, seemed as they had the same thoughts on the witch hunt. Many of the high influential religious leaders wanted to oppress the women who were “witches” as they were non-religious and in contact with the Devil. One of the religious leaders was Martin Luther who was a church sermon. His saying on the witch hunt was that the witches were the “Devil’s whore” and the cause of storms, bring illness and plague (Doc 5). Since this document is from a church sermons point of view it is very likely that Luther would say this because
