I am currently still in the process of using the method of friendship evangelism on a man I’ve known for many years. We have the opportunity to see one another in our personal and someties professional lives several times each month, at a minimum once a week. I chose to use this method because Jeremy and I are already friends. Over the years he has shared that he isn’t a very religious man, but always sounded curious about Jesus. He’s read the Bible several times, but hasn’t had someone with a deep understanding of the Bible to guide him. Once I began going to church regularly, some of the people in my life began to have a more open mind about Chrisianity. When we were together I would begin conversations about experiences I had recently had at church, which led to discussions about scripture and how Jesus has changed my life.
PART TWO – What was the reaction (questions/comments/statements) of the unbeliever?
Jeremy has always shared that he’s not interested in organized religion. He has stated that he believes in God, but hasn’t been involved in church. He has studied Scripture, but doesn’t know what he believes about the divinity of Jesus. He shares that his experiences with church visits were generally uncomfortable and non-productive. He’s had confrontational conversations with relatives who were too abrasive for him to be able to hear the word of God. After I began attending church regularly and became saved, I started feeling the need to share my experiences as a follower of Jesus with others.
