Athena, the Greatest Wizard of Oz

One may think that Athena is the greatest of all of the gods and better than many people, including Glinda the good witch from the wizard of Oz, maybe even the great Zeus himself! Well, if you thought this, then you are right! Glinda the good witch is a is a fictional character in the Land of Oz created by American author L. Frank Baum.Literature is everywhere with many great heroes and villains, but some rule over others. A great example is Athena, from the Odyssey, by Homer and Glinda the good witch, from the Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum. Athena is superior to Glinda because of her helpfulness, her wisdom, and ability to do more.

If she were really that concerned about Dorthy, then she would do more that stand and simply ask to stop. Athena is even more helping because of her bravery. In the Odyssey, the author illustrates that, “ Athene, the bright-eyed goddess, answered him at once: ‘Father of us all, Son of Cronos, Highest King, clearly that man deserved to be destroyed: so let all be destroyed who act as he did. But my heart aches for Odysseus, wise but ill fated, who suffers far from his friends on an island deep in the sea” (The Odyssey, Homer). This shows that Athena is more helpful to Odysseus because not only is the title of the chapter called “Athene seeks help for Odysseus,” but also she is standing up against her father and her uncle, only the rulers of all the land Zeus and Poseidon, for a single man, and she gets them to listen to her and make a reasonable deal just so he can get home safely. To top it off, Athena is helpful because of her variety in helping. According to the text, “Moved to anger, Pallas Athene spoke: ‘Ah...Come, listen, and note my words. Call the Achaean
