Representation in the media is known for being very positive, it has its ups and downs, although it has more downs than ups. Disney is a very well-respected company known for turning fairytales into entertaining movies. Lately, Disney has gone “woke” by race swapping their characters, this is very well known in Disney’s The Little Mermaid in which Ariel is played by Halle Bailey, a black actress. Other shows such as Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra include a race swap where the actor for Cleopatra, Adele James, is a black woman, when most Egyptian historians believe Cleopatra to be of Greek descent. Race swapping does nothing for people of color and is not a good form of representation, companies use it as a strategy to get people to believe that it is a form of representation, but it’s useless and only ends up causing more uproar from the public as changing up source material that’s unnecessary is not exactly going to get a good reaction from majority of the audience, many black audiences don’t even agree with race swapping as they feel it is an insult as if the tables were turned and a black character is played by a white
