Lewis Nordan tries to bridge the gaps in communication by using children to represent mistakes in the community and to ask difficult questions. I believe he does this to show how communication caused two children to die, Bobo and Glenn Gregg, and the use of students in Alice’s class to ask difficult questions in hopes for change in the future. I believe if the characters had been able to communicate effectively and without discrimination of gender, race, or socioeconomic class neither Bobo nor Glenn Gregg would have died.
