The war broke out in 1914, it is now 1917. I was drafted last May, I don't think twice about it as we must fight to secure our nation and I realize that the army needs all to volunteer. Woodrow Wilson wanted to maintain neutrality but that all changed when Germany announced U-Boat warfare on ships that entered the war zone around Britain. The Germans sunk many of our merchant ships and the RMS Lusitania. The Germans tried to sneak attack us by forming a military alliance with Mexico called the Zimmerman Note. I feel great to be able to help this country in a time of war. Germany cannot go unpunished for their horrible acts. At the point when democracy is in question, it’s a dreadful thing to lead this tranquil country into war. I must fight to secure our nation from Germany taking our rights to free travel away.

My nationalistic pride in my country makes me have more spirit and initiative to continue fighting. Every day I remain in the trenches to protect the people who are in fear because of Germany. Knowing my country will continue fighting makes me proud to be in that country. Me knowing that my sacrifice will be rewarded makes me to want to continue fighting until I die. I’m here to fight to

One shell claimed the lives of two men and injured five men. I saw the killed go down the trenches piling on top of each other. The constant feeling of getting bombarded, it was a horrid sight, seeing such a significant number of men die in only a couple of seconds. Johnny who was a sergeant of mine was the most noticeably bad, his body loaded with gaping holes. His lifeless body falling down was a miserable sight. It was, exceptionally tragic. Fritz one of my lieutenant strafed back in reply, causing us some uneasiness. The day passed uproariously and with a few more casualties.
