In other words, schools can cause their student’s lives to become difficult and unbearable. One way schools cause this to happen to their students is when they ignore or downplay bullying. Frequently schools have mild rules aside with mild punishments for bullying. The reason punishments are mild for bullying is because of the widespread belief that bullying is a part of growing up. In “Words That Wound” by Kathleen Vail, she said that “Societal expectations play a part in adult reactions to childhood bullying. Many teachers and administrators buy into a widespread belief that bullying is a normal part of childhood.” But what teachers and administrators aren’t realizing is they’re dwindling their student's lives quality by causing stress and worry. For example, students who have to face bullies have to worry about the kind of abuse they might receive during the school day. This unnecessary worry causes students to become stressed. The effect of this is students lose focus on assignments which leads to poorer grades. In some circumstances when the bullying is extremely, severe students will have poor attendance. Schools could drastically change the quality of life for these individuals by providing services that will devote aid to victims of bullying.
