Governments use propaganda to control people and persuade public opinion about certain issues. Propaganda became popular around World War I when countries were trying to get people to join the army and the war efforts. However, nowadays, propaganda can be used to express opinions about different controversial topics, like elections and global conflicts. A controversial topic talked about in the news is the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The two countries are in a heated war of terrorism to decide who gets all the land. People around the world have chosen sides and are upset about the lack of support for Palestine on the front lines. The author depicting Israel as “the baby” creates the feeling that Israel is similar to the boy who cried wolf. They are trying to convey that Israel is trying to victim-shame itself so they get aid and sympathy from Western powers around the world. The author is expressing that Israel shouldn’t be trusted and mainstreamed because of their constant victimizing of the situation happening in Gaza. The propaganda was meant to shed light on the situation happening in Gaza and how the real victims aren’t the Israelis, but the Palestinian people suffering in silence as Israel’s problems are being mainstreamed by massive Western media sites.
