A German soldier described the experiences that him and many soldiers experienced while being out in the battlefield during World War I. He also describes the affects the war left on him and his colleagues. He explains that many of his colleagues and himself where hopelessness when they return home from the war because it was tough to reenter into civilian life. Although civilians contributed to the fight of World War I from back home, it was the soldiers who were the most affected by it because they were the ones out in the battlefield witnessing and going through many traumatic events, causing long physical, and mental effects after the war. The people back home knew it was not going to be easy to reintroduced soldiers back into society because they witnessed many tragic events out in the battlefield. An example is “Integrating millions of returning veterans into civilian life was no easy task, for they had experienced horrors almost beyond imagination.” Integrating millions of soldiers was hard because they have been away from civilian life for a long period of time and were not use to it because they were accustomed to being out in the battlefield fighting the enemy. The government helped the returning soldiers be able to live a normal life by giving them a place to stay. An example of the government helping is “Governments sought to accommodate them, in Britain for example, with housing programs called “homes for heroes” emphasizing traditional family values.” This program helped the veterans relearn family values from how to act and treat their family and not think that their family is the enemy so the veterans won’t hurt them in any possible
