The Allies thought that to make sure there would never be a war of this magnitude again that they needed to take away everything from Germany. But I believe World War II could have been prevented if they would have treated Germany fairly and included them in making of the Treaty. Also if when the totalitarian states started cause problems someone would have said no you can't do this.
In the Treaty of Versailles the Allied Powers blame the entire war on Germany.
