Back in World War II sonar equipment was used to help detect submarines, but with further discovery of this equipment, it was found that it would be beneficial for medical use. In 1947 Dussick discovered that this equipment, along with computer aid could help detect lesions and tumors within the skull. Dussick as well as Hueter, Bolt, and Ballantyne went even further to investigate the many benefits and uses, only to find that it would be too intricate for everyday clinical use. After a radiologist named Howry Wild and a diagnostician named Ludwig proved that ultrasound could be a diagnostic tool, the first ultrasound scanner was produced in 1948.
