Play is not always about playing safe. Risk is an important part of growth and development and is part of play. We need to offer opportunity for challenge and risk through which they can explore their surroundings and develop their won skills, independence and confidence. Our maintaining safety in the settings allow children to take challenge with the minimum of risk. We are always aware of potential dangers and we plan activities and routines with safety in mind.
Children can decide for example how high they would like climb. In our after school club we have 2 big climbing frame which the small one is to be use by children from Reception and Year 1 but as we want them to take a challenges we let them go on the big climbing frame if they want. But if they go on one of our staff member have to go with them and be ready to help them at any time as sometimes they are able to climb on top but they are struggling to get down. If I'm not sure if they age is appropriate to the challenge they taking I always ask for advice other
