Goitre disease, more commonly spelled as goiter, is a disease in which the neck begins to swell due to the thyroid gland becoming larger than its normal size. Because it affects the thyroid gland, we know that it irritates the neck and throat region. It tends to create great difficulty for the gland to function properly, resulting in severe discomfort for those who obtain it. There are also a number of different causes which associate with this disease. Just to name a few, iodine deficiency, grave’s disease, inflammation, and thyroid cancer could all build up and result in a goiter. Many symptoms could be noted when an individual is experiencing goiter’s disease. Some may include a change in voice, tightening of the throat region, difficulty breathing, and more physical symptoms such as the growth and swelling of the outer throat. There are treatments available for those who suffer through this disease. Some may be prescribed medications from a doctor, while others include home remedies. Goiter’s disease has been known to have arisen back as far as 2700 B.C. Back throughout the sixth century, many believed that this disease was a result of a hernia of the larynx.
