The double-murder suicide took place over three days ending on June 25, 2007. It’s believed that Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy Benoit on June 22, 2007. Her injuries indicated that Chris Benoit had pressed his knee into her back while using a cord around her neck to strangle her ("Officials: Wrestler Strangled Wife, Suffocated Son, Hanged Self | Fox News," 2007). Benoit’s second victim was the couple’s seven year old son Daniel Benoit. His time of death is unknown but there was traces of Xanax in his system making it likely that he was unconscious when he was suffocated (Montgomery, 2007). On June 24, 207 Chris Benoit then committed suicide by hanging using the pulley from his weight lifting machine (Lohr, 2007). While no one knows for sure what prompted the three day events police did find steroids in the home and it was believed that they may have played a part in the events (Donaldson-Evans, 2007). WWE talent continues to be suspended for failing their drug tests. It’s clear that even though the WWE randomly drug screens their talent that either the wrestlers are just willing to chance that they’ll be caught or perhaps there’s a pattern to the way that drug tests are given that they picked up on. Whatever the problem it’s clear that the WWE needs to make changes to their Wellness Program as far as drug testing is concerned. Perhaps drug testing is needed more than four times a year. The cost of drug testing could be a concern, however, a compromise could possibly be made that between the four random tests a less costly drug test could be given one that may not test for a large number of drugs. Many companies now give their employees drug screenings before employing them these tests likely don’t test for as many drugs as the tests that the WWE gives during their Wellness Program’s testing, but these tests could possibly pick up some drug use such as the use of marijuana, narcotics, and alcohol. Another thing that the WWE could possible do to cut costs on drug screening is require only those who have violated the policy to test more frequently not only for just a year after the incident for a longer period of time. Every so often either the WWE releases the names of wrestlers who failed their testing or the information is leaked to many of the
