Issues and Problems
The high amount of system defects or issues when a new feature or enhancement is implemented. Currently a system issue is not detected until after the system changes are in place. These are reported by the end user by logging the issue on a SharePoint site. A user responsible for triage will then analyze the reported information to determine if the issue is a defect. A daily call is set up to evaluate the root cause, determine the level of effort for the fix, and when that system fix will be added to a release. Often times the issue will not be corrected for some time. This causes the end user to spend more time processing the request which equals more resources and more money. Each person is responsible for one component of the overall process. If one person cannot continue with their task, others can jump in to continue without completely stopping the process.
Just in Time- Having the right amount of resources at the right time. Keeping stock in the right quantity at the right place. Placement of supplies and workstations in the right place to eliminate waste and reduce errors.
Kaizen and Total Quality Management- Rapid improvement events where a team of individuals gather to analyze a current process, look for waste, and brainstorm on how to eliminate the waste. These individuals will then develop process flows to improve the current process. The new flow is then tested for effectiveness. An implementation plan of action is decided on. Employees are encouraged to contribute to future ideas and continuous improvement.
The approach most applicable to the identified issue is Kaizen and Total Quality
