Yahoo Probes CEO hiring Scott Thompson, CEO of Yahoo was hired under the impression that he had a degree a bachelor’s degree in accounting and computer science. It was determined by Stonehill College that Thompson only received his degree in accounting. Third point owes 6% interest in the company wanted to see all books and records regarding Thompson and gave deadlines for the information. Third point can sue Yahoo, if they don’t produce the information requested. The human resource team at Yahoo should have done a detailed search when they were looking for a candidate for the CEO position, if they would have looked into his schooling, they may have found earlier that he falsified information on his application.
1. Why does it matter whether or not Thompson earned or did not earn a degree in computer science in addition to his accounting degree? It matters whether or not Thompson has earned a degree because his degree is a determining factor on if he qualifies for the position. One of the requirements for his position could have been that a degree in computer science wad expected, and if they wound have known he did not have the degree, he probably would not have been a candidate for the position. 2. What are some of the ways information is placed on corporate web sites? Should Thompson have caught the errors? Corporate records can be found on different websites like LexisNexis. Thompson should have known that the information was not correct because he would have been the one giving the information to whom ever entered it into his or any corporate website. 3. What about signing regulatory documents with incorrect data about his degrees? Is that a different problem? Companies have an obligation to keep regulatory documents, which usually are used to show a company’s compliance with the standards of good practice and with all applicable regulatory requirements. This information is important because it says a lot about the company and those they employ, and falsifying information is illegal. 4. How might having a degree in computer science have been an advantage at the kinds of companies Thompson worked for? A computer science degree at companies like yahoo has a great advantage because computer majors are the driven force of innovation.
