Did you know that there are already 25 different states around the country that offer their students the opportunity to attend a year-round school? The concept of year-round school is typically organized in a 50/15 or 45/15 schedule. This means that students go to school for a forty-five to fifty day period before having a brief 15 day break. This allows for school to continue year-round while still having school off over major holiday periods such as Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza, and Thanksgiving. “Advocates say the shorter breaks make it easier for students to retain knowledge and are less disruptive to the learning process” (Kelly). To start, one reason why year-round schooling should be implemented into schools across the country is that year-round schooling can help prevent summer learning loss. The shorter but more plentiful breaks integrated into a year-round school schedule make these benefits possible.
