The story of the Yellowstone Caldera began about 640,000 years ago. In the beginning, a hotspot sent up magma to the surface of the earth. The hot magma kept on building up and created a dome. The dome it had created continued to enlarge until the stress on the surrounding ground became too great for earth to handle. Fissures began to form on the neighboring areas and the pressure caused the dome to erupt. Large amounts of lava were expelled, and that caused the previous dome shape to deflate and look like a crater. Though people would think that the caldera wouldn't have any magma left in it. It does, and the amount of magma continues to grow every day. This caldera is located in Wyoming and resides under Yellowstone National Park. This caldera happens to be 30 x 45 miles …show more content…
The colors are produced by microorganisms that live in the hot water that the caldera produces. Each of the microorganisms have a specific heat they can live in, so you can see where the heat of the water changes the closer it gets to the surface by the different colors of the microorganisms. The Yellowstone Caldera is also home to many geysers. One of the more popular geysers is Old Faithful. This geyser isn't located inside of the caldera, but it erupts because of the heat which the caldera generates. This caldera is a benefit to the areas that encircle it because of the many tourists it attracts. The caldera produces many of the things that you would want to see if you go to Yellowstone national park. Without the caldera, you wouldn't have mud pots, hot springs, geysers, or the beautifully colored pools that are all main features that make Yellowstone a key place to see. So when people flock to see all these natural wonders, they are bringing their business to the people who live there. This allows people who live there to have their own small businesses or tourist attractions which are funded off
