The director and academic advisor for Yours To Lose, Dr. Donna Johnson, stated, “It took extensive hours to form. When the students go through the selection process, the selection committee is made up of KCU and MSSU representatives.”

The fourth year, of six, marks the beginning of medical school; the Yours To Lose students do not have to apply since the program automatically enrolls them into medical school at KCU-Joplin.
“A lot of doctors say 90% of med school is getting in, and the other 10% is finishing. This is taking out the 90%,” Matthew Roberts, a Yours To Lose freshman entrant remarks.
Since Yours To Lose is an accelerated program, there are application requirements. Seniors must have taken three years of math including algebra and trigonometry (calculus isn’t required, but it is preferred), and three years of science including biology and chemistry (physics and anatomy and physiology are preferred, but is not required).
Furthermore, “The academic profile requires a 3.7 gpa overall on an unweighted 4.0 [scale] in high school. A 3.5 for math and science on an unweighted 4.0 [scale], and a 28 composite ACT score. Those are academic. The successful student will have extracurricular activities— especially in community service and leadership,” Dr. Johnson elucidates.

Before school starts, the Yours To Lose class will have a green coat ceremony where they each receive a green coat. It recognizes the trail they are choosing to undertake, and the dedication it will demand.
Zane Corcoran, a freshman Yours To Lose entrant declares, “I think this program is the best program in the nation. This program is the first of its kind in the nation.”
Since there are only 25 seats available, the application process is competitive. Applying for Yours To Lose is a three step procedure. First, candidates must apply to MSSU. Then, applicants will apply to Yours To Lose. If the application satisfies the formal and informal necessities, the admission committee will conduct interviews.
“Don’t be nervous for the interviews. They already know you are qualified, they just want to know you better. They want to know who you are,” Roberts advises.
