As I began to observe the situation, I realized that the younger girls of the camp were very impressionable—while the older girls would bicker and fight, the younger girls watching would simply follow their actions. They may not have realized how they were being affected, but they would start to gossip and choose sides between the four girls, inadvertently worsening an already difficult situation. Since then, I’ve taken it upon myself to be an example for everyone, especially for underclassmen. As a senior, I strive to be amiable, showing charity towards everyone. It’s essential to show kindness towards this year’s freshmen, knowing that what happens this year will affect them for the rest of their high school career. Therefore, I exert myself to be a compassionate and loving senior, rather than one who dictates their decisions, and I do so in the hopes that others will follow my example and aid the new freshmen at the beginning of this journey. Since my experience with the girls at camp, I have learned many things, but one thing has weighed very heavily on my mind: Leadership isn’t a position, it’s an action.
