Youth gangs have been on the rise since they entered the U.S. in 1783. “Some suggest they first emerged following the Mexican migration to the Southwest after the Mexican Revolution in 1813” (Youth Gangs, 1998). Youth gangs have emerged spontaneously from play groups and schools. The Crips are a primarily, but not exclusively, African American gang founded in Los Angeles California in 1969. There are multiple biker gangs in today’s society. In the 1930s Hells Angel, the American Motorcyclist Association hosted motorcycle rallies in Hollister, California. Their origins start at the end of World War Two when some ex-servicemen returning from the war found their civilian lives boring. During the fifties more Hells Angels Charters came into existence, from having been exclusively a Californian phenomenon, the club developed internationally in 1961. On July the 30th 1969 the first European Hells Angels charter was accepted in London, England. At the end of the Seventies, Australian clubs were admitted and in 1984, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil became the first South American charter. In 1993, Hells Angels came to the African continent with a charter in Johannesburg, South Africa. Eastern Europe got its own Hells Angels charter in the new millennium and since then many more countries have been granted the now famous winged Death Head. Today the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club has spread its wings all over the World. The Crips dominant color is Blue. On the West Coast, however, many of them no longer openly display their gang affiliation. Crips Graffiti includes "BK" for "Blood Killer”. Hells Angels metonym 81stands for the 8th letter of the alphabet which is an H, and the 1st letter of the alphabet. Red & White is another metonym; Red & White are the colors of the club, red letters on a white background. On the top of the back of the vest is HELLS ANGELS, and the bottom is the Countries/States/Charters location. In the center is the logo called the Death Head, and the small square with MC stands for Motorcycle Club. Drug trafficking remains the primary source of illicit income for the Hells Angels, though the group is also involved in a variety of other criminal activities, such as prostitution, fraud and extortion. The crips gang is known to be involved in murders, robberies, drug dealing, among many other criminal pursuits. In amongst such conditions, children are the most vulnerable. Society’s alienation of these youths means that the only place they can find respect, kinship and power is within a gang.
