Youtube: The Female Gothic Genre

My RIP is an animation that educates my audience about the Female Gothic and how historical and cultural context connects with it. The genre that I decided to use was Youtube. I specifically used Youtube as my genre because I wanted to educate my audience in an entertaining way. Also, the conventions of Youtube, such as, the like and dislike button, share button, play and pause button, and comment section allows my audience to have personal control over their learning. These conventions of Youtube also allows my audience to spread the knowledge and discuss their opinions. According to Eric Blattberg, “ ...in March, YouTube drew 31.8 million users aged 18 to 24... “ (1), this means my audience is more likely going to be a younger demographic that spends an average of 10 hours on Youtube. According to Blattberg Youtube audience mostly use Youtube to search up entertaining things rather than anything scholarly.(1) So, it made sense that I created my project to be entertaining while still providing information. Understanding Youtube and my audience allowed me to understand how my audience might expect certain things within my project. Specifically, history influences the Female Gothic genre. According to to Davidson Female Gothic gives, “... attention to the fact that women generally repressed fears and desires…”(50), I used this understanding to connect it to historical contexts of feminism. In my animation I alluded Friedan’s book and Gilman’s short story as examples of history connecting with literary works. I animated and added visuals so that my audience won’t get lost with the content. Moreover, I even pointed out specific things in my animation so that my audience would not get lost with texts everywhere. I pointed these things out by presenting my animation in a humorous way, such as shaking the image and making the animation do funny
