Text Analysis Task

Paragraph 1

Comparing these two texts, they are obviously protesting about the same thing which is discrimination but the difference between these two is that the first one is protested through a website and the second one is through visual content.

In the website article, the author used facts and statements to persuade the reader whereas in the poster the author used an image and huge emphasised words to persuade the audience.

The website article states "Many participants labelled anti-Muslim discrimination a daily or regular occurrence, particularly following the Sydney Lindt cafe siege in December 2014 and heightened concerns about national security". This clearly shows that the author was talking

Paragraph 2

These two examples protest that they are against discrimination.

The website article shows that it’s against discrimination by stating facts against it. The poster shares the same idea but showing it through an image.
The video from the website article stated “Concerns discrimination of race affected employment opportunities”. This means that the author of the blog is concerned about people of different race and that they don’t get equal treatment. The poster shows it through a website explaining what discrimination is all about and the people affected by racism and other forms of discrimination.

Both protests are against discrimination.

I believe that the intended audience for both protests are for everyone.

Jargon uses specialised terms to persuade the audience that the author is an expert. Formal Language can make the author sound knowledgeable and reasonable.
Rhetorical question does not require an answer and are asked for effect only. Images are also used to persuade the audience visually.

“They include attacks on Muslim women targeted for wearing Hijabs, assaults on public transport, online threats, property damage and graffiti.” This sentence used Generalisation making a statement about Muslims. Jargon was used by using specialised terms like Commission, Discrimination, Apprehension and more. “The experience of racial vilification – or the apprehension of such an experience – can be an intimidating one.” The use of specialised terms makes this statement formal and makes the author sound intelligent.
“Should you have to hide the real you to be accepted?” is an example of a Rhetorical question, an image was used for the poster to persuade.

These were the persuasive techniques used to create these two text types.

I think that both the website article and poster are successful because they were both presented well and both texts used persuasive
