Boris Pasternak is a poet and a novelist. He was born in Moscow in 1890. He was of a Jewish religion and in a family of pianists and artists. Family knew famous writers such as Tolstoy and Rilke. In Parsternak’s early life, he tried to play several instruments, however in 1912, later lost interest and began learning philosophy. A few months later, he got uninterested in that specific subject and attempted to get into writing, to which, after some time, he decided to devote his whole life to. Doctor Zhivago is in fact one of his most famous works and turned out to be a very engrossing book and later a movie. Nevertheless, Pasternak had many problems with the book as we look back at the history. He was prohibited from publishing it, because of its different views on Soviet life, its portrayal of the government and the wealthy. However after years of issues, the book was finally published in 1957 in Italy and later, in 1965 the movie was released in the US. In 1958, Pasternak won the Nobel Prize for Literature, however he was forced to give up Literature award due to heavy criticism from Stalin’s party. One of the reasons why the decision was made was because of food shortage in the city. They decided to take the train east, as one of the most reliable and fastest ways to travel. Mainly, the reason why for me it was one of the most interesting parts of the movie was because the decision to leave Moscow where they lived was a major decision on their part.
