"Why are you still out here child? It's chilly and you're wearing but a thin dress." Velma came over to where I was standing shivering gazing up at the moon with a distant look in my eyes.
"I'm just looking at the moon. It's quite beautiful, is it not?" I had begun to shiver more violently as the wind blew and Velma asked and left to fetch a blanket.
"Here, child." She set the blanket on my shoulders and I kissed her hand with affection. "Do you want to hear a story about the moon?"
I could remember barely nodding my head, as I walked over and sat on one of the two old rocking chairs.
"Once there was a man and a woman. They were from different worlds, but fell in love by a chance encounter at a time when both of their worlds collided. When the day ended they were forced apart as the rift between their worlds closed. The girl who awoke during the night in her world mourned the loss of the man and the man who awoke in the morning that lived during the day became ravaged with the need to see the woman again." She paused and took a deep breath.
"One day, a few years later the rift opened and the woman and man met again and rejoiced as they knew they only had a small amount of time together. The man begged the woman to come back with him to his world and the girl agreed, but told him she was not like he was and could only awake during the night. He said he didn't care and she followed him into his world as the rift closed once again.
