Charles Clayton Mrs. Henderson American Literature 26 September, 2012 The book I read for my first book report this year was A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. This novel was a very enjoyable fantasy-fiction novel. This book is the story of four Houses fighting for the throne of Westeros. The houses are Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, and Baratheon. Each family has specific saying or “words” that describe them. The first family is the House Stark that consists of Lord Eddard Stark who is married to Catelyn Stark. Eddard and Catelyn have five children; Robb the soldier, Sansa the princess, Arya the brave, Bran the cripple and Rickon the youngest. They also have a bastard son named John Snow who is sent to work on The Wall, which is outside of Winterfell. The Stark family lives in Winterfell and originates 10,000 years back to the original people. The Starks still worship the Old Gods and once ruled the north until the Targaryen’s took over. The Starks are friends with the House Baratheon. The Starks family words are “Winter is Coming” The House Targaryen consists of Princess Daenerys Targaryen and her brother Prince Viserys Targaryen. In attempts to build an army Viserys arranges for his sister to marry Khal Drogo the leader of the Dothraki. The Dothraki are a race of barbarian people known for their skills in warfare and battle. When Daenerys marries Khal Drogo she is gifted with three stone covered dragon eggs. The Targaryen’s are known to have been the parents of dragons therefore they cannot die from fire. Viserys believes he is the father of dragons, but when Khal Drogo witnesses how he mistreats Daenerys this is shown false. Khal Drogo pours a bucket of melted gold on Viserys head and he dies. Since Viserys has died due to fire it becomes evident that Daenerys is actually the mother of dragons. When Khal Drogo dies and his body is being burned, Daenerys walks into the flames with the dragon eggs in hopes of dying with her husband. When the flames turn to ash Daenerys is alive and the three dragon eggs have hatched. The words of the Targaryen’s is “Fire and Blood” The next family is the House Lannister which is ruled by Tywin Lannister. Tywin has three adult children; Tyrion the dwarf, Jaime, and Queen Cersei Baratheon. Jaime is the reason the Bran Stark is crippled. Bran was climbing rocks up to the third story window of Winterfell and caught Cersei and her brother having intercourse. Jaime pushed Bran out of the window in hopes that Bran would die and no one would find out about Jaime and Cersei’s relationship. Cersei is married to King Robert Baratheon who is king over Westeros. The words of the Lannister’s is “Hear Me Roar” The House Baratheon is ruled by King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Baratheon. Robert and Cersei have three children; Princess Myrcella, Prince Joffrey, heir to the throne and arranged to marry Sansa Stark, and Prince Tommen. The Baratheon’s and the Starks are very close so when King Robert’s right hand dies he takes on Eddard as a replacement. Eddard and two of his children, Sansa and Arrya, move to Kingslanding. When Robert dies due to illness Prince Joffrey
