My argument is that for one the king of Mexico City, Motecuhzoma was foolish to think that the Spaniards were “Gods” after they treated the first messengers with such greed and violence. The messengers brought luxurious finery to the Spaniards and the captain had the nerve to ask them: “And is this all? Is this your gift of welcome? Is this how you greet people?” Motecuhzoma responded with astonishment and terror by the messengers report. The king of Mexico City was not a leader to his people and his land by not reacting with a mindset of warfare. His mythical beliefs killed the lives of 100,000’s natives. A king will protect and trust his messengers, Moctecuhzoma failed to either of these because of his arrogance and reasoning.
When the Spaniards were spotted off the cost of Mexico they were quickly reported to the king of Mexico City. He didn’t believe that the messengers were being honest. He thought the gods were returning and back to take over. Terror rose, after violence and greed happened after contact.
Luxurious finery, food, and drinks were given to the gods and they responded unsatisfied. They wanted more. They were actually Spaniards and they wanted to fight the Mexicans. The Spaniards had advanced armory, weapons, and transportation. Well equipped, well trained soldiers arrived on land and were met with other native tribes bringing them gifts, and this continued all the way until he contacted the king. On this journey the Spaniards slaughtered families and destroyed home, they convinced natives to believe in Christianity. They were violent and destroyed everything in its path. The king heard about everything they were doing and still did not carry out an army of warriors to stop this massacre. Decoys of magicians and a fake king but failed. When the Spaniards arrived in Mexico City, they were showered in luxurious finery and were given anything they wanted. The king was ready to give his empire to the Spaniards because that’s what was expected for the gods to return.
A fiesta was put on for the gods, had they made their final arrival to their homeland. This made it easy for them to attack,
