Report on Apogee’s employee communication

Terms of reference
Brian Aldridge, Director of Apogee has requested this report on the effect of employee communication at Apogee marketing company. The report was to be submitted to him by 13 March.

Procedure
Information was gathered from a research using questionnaires which include 9 questions. Apogee’s employees were surveyed about:
1. Current system of internal communication.
2. Information reception.
3. The views about E-mail and face to face meeting.
4. Their main mode of communication.

Findings
1. 72% of employees are satisfied with the current system of internal communication, 28% are dissatisfied.
2. 58% of employees are receiving a lot of information at present, 42% are not in the same situation.
3. 60% of employees agree that e-mail is useful for solving complicated problems, 40% do not agree.
4. 52% of employees consider that they receive a quick response to their communications, but 48% of them do not receive a reply quickly.
5. 70% of employees found e-mail may cause misunderstanding sometimes, 30% do not encounter this issue.
6. 30% of employees feel emailing is good for building up team spirit, 70% disagree that.
7. 56% of employees would like to have more face to face meetings with their line manager, 44% of employees would not like that.
8. 88% of employees would like to see meetings with team members every month to discuss problems, 12% do not want to have that meetings monthly.
9. Main mode of communication
a) 8% of employees usually communicate with other team members by face to face;
b) 22% of employees use telephone for communicating with others;
c) 65% of employees use e-mail as the main mode of communication with other team members;
d) 5% of employees would like to choose internal memo as the main way to communicate with other team members.
Conclusions
1. A majority number of employees are satisfied with the current system of internal communication, and more than half of employees are communicating with each other by e-mail. However, they deem it is not useful enough for dealing with complex issues by emailing, also e-mail may cause misunderstanding in some cases.
