ENG 210 Practical Grammar
September 13, 2013 Question: Do you believe the United States in addition to other countries should launch an attack on Syria government? Give three reasons why you do or do not agree that such an action should be taken. On August 21, 2013 Syria’s military forces released a chemical weapon known as sari a nerve gas on their own citizens in Damascus. The reason, according to Syria, was that these citizens were rebels. However, many of these citizens consist of innocent children and women. This act warrants a response from the United Nation for this crime against humanity. President Obama wants to punish Syria by launching a military strike for its action. According to U.S intelligence agencies, an estimated 14,000 people were killed in the incident. This is the information that the Daily Press reported. However, the U.S is in no position to take on another war because of financial and other factors. The United States should not launch an attack on Syria’s government for economic, political and military factors that will overburden the American people. First, the United States should not launch an attack on Syria’s government for economic factors that will overburden the American people. War is costly. The U.S. is still in Afghanistan with military troops. The country has not recovered from that war. Another financial factor the U.S. is still recovering from a recession in which unemployment is still high. However, jobs and new technology are slowly putting most Americans back to work. Another financial factor is that the U.S. still owes a lot of money to China. The debt of the country is a factor that cannot be overlooked when it comes to the decision of going to war. Second, the United States should not launch an attack on Syria’s government for political factors that will overburden the American people. Politically, there are no other nations that want to launch a strike on Syria. Russia is Syria’s ally. With the recent visit from the President Obama to President Vladimir V. Puttin, it appears that our relationship with Russia is not that good. Prior to the Syria incident, Russia granted an Edwin Snowden asylum when the U.S wanted him back in American to bring him up on charges of espionage. Another factor that needs to be considered is that unless the United Nations step up to the plate and punish this country for violating the rules set up by the council, the U.S. cannot afford to be the world police. It has to be a collective decision from the whole body that governs the nations. If the council had agreed to send Syria a message, then the U.S. could response with other countries on a punishment for this incident. Our international relationship is being strained to even proceed with such an unreasonable task of military strike. However, even though most of the time Americans support their president, this may not be an issue he can win. Third, the United States should not launch an attack on Syria’s government for military factors that will
