Children should experience secure attachments from a young age as they might find it harder to make attachments when they are older not experiencing can cause children to have issues with trust and a low self-esteem meaning they may be withdrawn around other and not excel as they think they cannot do something this is why practitioners aim to give children a lot of praise which will build their confidence and self-esteem making them feel more comfortable and able to put trust in people. Ainsworth discovered the 3 types of attachment which were secure attachment, ambivalent attachment and avoidant attachment. When children are left with a stranger and have a secure attachment, the stranger is unable to calm the child however in avoidant attachments the stranger is able to calm the child the same as the mother. Children who are ambivalent may not be easily comforted by a parent or a stranger. Avoidant children are likely to be used to being alone so they are not as distressed when they are left completely alone.
